From a young age, Maasai girls learn the art of beadwork, a living expression of identity, culture, and daily life. By linking beadwork to conservation and building it into a social enterprise, Conservation Beads creates livelihoods that depend on and actively support the protection of nature, ensuring that culture and conservation thrive together. Therefore, Conservation Beads is a story of coexistence. It is a Social Enterprise that was created by Maasai women living in Kenya’s South Rift and supported by South Rift Association of Land Owners (SORALO). Through their craftsmanship, over 400 women are turning tradition into opportunity: preserving culture, building sustainable livelihoods, and helping protect the land they call home.
